Selfridges Opens World’s Largest Shoe Department

_Selfridges London has recently unveiled the world’s largest shoe department. Spanning across 35,000 sq ft, it will be home to more than 4,000 pairs of shoes from 120 brands. It will also stock 30 exclusive styles specially commissioned by Selfridges. [ABOVE]

Jason Alper is a british artist and costume designer whose work has been featured in many galleries in Los Angeles. He also co-created Sacha Baron Cohen’s larger than life Brüno and Borat characters. "Proletarian Drift and the Enfranchisement of the Bourgeoisie in the 21st Century " is an exhibition of eight oils that sees Alper superimpose Louis Vuitton’s logo on some of the world’s most iconic artworks, from Leonardo De Vinci to René Magritte.

"Decoded" Book by Jay-Z: November 16 2010 Release date

The artwork for the cover was released yesterday [TOP, November 2010] and features an image of Andy Warhol’s “Rorschach” [BOTTOM, 1984]. The book will “decode” 36 of Jay-Z's singles from his catalog.
On his book: "I told my editor that I wanted it to do three important things. The first was to make the case that hip-hop lyrics, not just my lyrics, but those of every great MC, are poetry if you look at them closely enough. The second was I wanted the book to tell a little bit of the story of my generation, to show the context for the choices we made at a violent and chaotic crossroads in recent history. And the third piece was that I wanted the book to show how hip-hop created a way to take a very specific and powerful experience and turn it into a story that everyone in the world could feel and relate to.”
At $21, it is much more reasonably priced than most hardcover collectible books. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon, here.

Chloé's new fragrance, Love

_There's a lot of hype around Chloé's new fragrance, Love. Unfortunately it isn't out in the States yet but I can't wait to smell it (even though I'll probably never switch perfumes). In the meantime, we can always count on Colette! Find it online, here. More on the making of the fragrance below.

Evian x Issey Miyake

_Love!!! So chic. I used to be a personal assistant to a TV Producer and I kept 3 tall glass Christian Lacroix Evian bottles next to his bed. They became decor.

Hermès x Colette: J'aime Mon Carré

Hermès pour toi. Hermès pour moi.
Streetstyle fashion websites are huge now and Hermès has joined the party. Their new website "J'aime Mon Carré" (French for "I Love My Scarf") features girls from New York, London, Paris and Tokyo wearing Hermès scarves. I hope this website inspires more girls in Los Angeles to wear scarves - so chic. The lack of love for Los Angeles on J'aime Mon Carré's website is proof that we don't wear them enough here. My French mom rarely leaves the house without one on...
Hermès is releasing a special "J'aime Mon Carré" silk scarf collection with Colette on September 27th.
Also check out their new Fall/Winter 2010 ad campaign video "La Vie Comme une Conte" (Life as a Fairytale): here. So hot.

Moët & Chandon celebrate the launch of Moët Ice Imperial

Champagne tastemakers Moët & Chandon are launching their first ice champagne tomorrow, Moët & Chandon Ice Imperial. This new champagne is meant to be enjoyed on the rocks. I look forward to trying it at the launch party tomorrow evening - Thank you Diane!
_I think everyone can understand why Scarlett Johansson isn't featured in Moët's Ice Imperial ads (see her Moët ads here) - the bottle by itself is stunning. [RIGHT]

Manolo Blahnik for Liberty London launching Fashion Night Out

My shoes are special shoes for discerning feet. _Manolo Blahnik
I really try my best not to turn Au Courant into a fashion blog. What I often choose to publish in the world of fashion are ad campaigns and collaborations. To see distinctive talent come together and form something unique is always impressive and cutting-edge. That being said, I have to admit I wasn't a fan of the collaborations between H&M and Karl Lagerfeld, Jimmy Choo and I'm not excited about Lanvin. Haute couture is haute couture for a reason. I don't think it should be mixed with a regular clothing brand and launched into the mass market...
_Now for collaborations that DO make sense. Manolo Blahnik for the iconic Liberty of London. Their collaboration was announced months ago but the collection is finally becoming available on Thursday in London for Fashion Night Out. Here are two prestigious brands that know their worth. Blahnik sourced through the famous Liberty fabric print archives to create an exclusive collection for the store. The collaboration also features candles, notecards, pillows and scarves.

The CHANEL SOHO Collection for the reopening of the CHANEL SoHo boutique

_Chanel is reopening its doors on Friday for Fashion's Night Out (with an intimate opening cocktail party the night before). To celebrate the launch of the boutique, Chanel has created a limited edition SOHO makeup collection available as of Friday at the new boutique. I'm very into their pop art inspired website: CHANEL SOHO 2010.

Colette x Uslu Airlines ONE Political Nail Color

ONE world ONE love ONE money

_Colette and German luxury cosmetic brand Uslu Airlines have created the nail color ONE in an effort to unite world currencies: One world. One Love. One Money. They consider the US dollar to be the most famous world currency, therefore the nail color is Dollar Green and comes with a real dollar bill imprinted with the words "WORLD LOVE MONEY". Read more via Colette here or purchase via Uslu Airlines here.
The shade is perfect for the fall Khaki trend. The Chanel Khaki collection (view post) comes out in a few days - I'm wearing Khaki Rose right now :) [BOTTOM]

Kate Moss by Mario Testino: The Book

READY...
...SET
GO:
_Kate Moss by Mario Testino [TOP, MIDDLE] in the TASCHEN book Kate Moss by Mario Testino [BOTTOM]
The Kate Moss book by Mario Testino comes out tomorrow with only 1500 books being produced. Sign up here today for a better chance at owning a copy. I'd been telling myself I had to do a blog post about luxury book publishers ever since Assouline hosted their afternoon for bloggers in New York last week (their shop is in the Plaza Hotel). Perfect timing. Gisele Bundchen has been my favorite model since I was very young, but this Model/Photographer collaboration is exquisite. I've noticed my blog has turned into a Testino shrine these days.. view his work here.

Coffee Table books. Also perfect timing because I finally filled out my blogger profile, along with the Book section where I've listed a few personal favorites. Many of them are Coffee Table Books. Top Publishers are Assouline, Taschen, Rizzoli and Abrams. They are luxury. Discover them.
Subject noteworthy: One of my favorite interior designers, Mary McDonald, is coming out with a book "Interiors: The Allure of Style" this fall. It can be pre-ordered here. My aunt Jessica shot some of the photography for it!
